Taiwan

        I always wanted to visit Taiwan for a long time. I had a chance to visit there this summer, but unfortunately I didn't have enough time to get my visa. Taiwan is known for its towering mountains and, indeed, is spotted with numerous mountains peaks that rise over 3,000 meters. It is also the home of Northeast Asia's tallest mountain, Yu Mountain (Yushan), which is nearly 4,000 meter in height. Besides mountains, beautiful coastal scenes are part of Taiwan's great natural assets.

       I think every Chinese have a complex feeling about Taiwan. Have interest doesn't mean understand it. When I was a little, I always thought that Taiwan is apart of China. It's because that is what I have learned in our textbook. And also at that time, I could not find very information about the relationship between China and Taiwan on the internet. After I came to the US, I started to understand the odd relationship between China and Taiwan. The rulers of each polity insisted that they were also the rightful rulers of the other, and that the de facto rulers were illegitimate. Thus, Taiwan claims jurisdiction over China, and China claims jurisdiction over Taiwan. The relationship today is a lot better than what it used to be. Both China and Taiwan are making economic treaties that help both and help the people. Today, people from China can travel to Taiwan much easier than before, I hope I will have chance to visit there soon.
