Nelson’s Dream was written by
J.M. Newsome. This story happened in Southern Africa, and it’s about a young
man called Nelson who returns to his country after three years of studying in London. His parents are
hotel owners. But at the same time in another
location in the country, sector D, a poor family suffers from
HIV, the father dying first, then the mother
and soon after the youngest
child has it too. The children Daniel, Lily Anne and Eddy do
everything possible to survive. Daniel likes to
sing and a reporter called Vicky is
interested in writing about his life. And also, Nelson is
interested in helping this family and especially to help
prevent AIDS.
This book is very
interesting because it touches some very
controversial issues in the world such
as poverty, corruption and health problems like AIDS. Topics that are closely linked and
that even in this century people still do
not know how to prevent it because the
government does not invest in these important
issues. This also affects our society, and we
need to understand that AIDS touches all
walks of life and our young people need
to be informed. Moreover, it also gives an example of
solidarity in the world; if
we do our part we can help others as Nelson
did. I definitely recommend this book because
of the immense message that this story has, especially
for the youth.
