The Way Home

Reviewed by Xiquan Li

The Way Home is written by Sue Leather. Strange to say, It consist of eight different stories of special journey. The most important thing is that every story is not relative with each other. There are a lot of journeys in our entire life. The author take advantage of eight journeys from different people and tell us how journey change their life. The Way Home is about Alex returns to her home in England and discuss her affair with her mother, The Nature of Truth is about a successful author who called Annie meets an old friend in the train. Just The Fact is about Gretzky travel to an execution and discover truth behind a murder.  Water In The Desert is about truck driver gives an escaped prisoner a lift. The Knowledge is about a taxi driver pick up Bruce Lee to Chinatown. Fifteen Hundred Words is about how a bus ride home change Abi's life. North Sea Eyes is about love between a man and a tram driver .The last one "End point" is about four strangers meet at a motel.
Though it divides into eight independent short stories, I think it really contributes to avoid mixing up complicated relation of main characters. I strongly recommend this book because it is filled with interesting and tense pacing of the plots. And the book completely grabs readers from the first page to the end. Especially in "Just the Fact", it exposes the ugly nature of human in real society. And the loss of social justice is though-provoking. In addition, Do Thomas keep silence and lets injustice happen or speak out the truth regardless of consequence to herself? You will know the answer as long as you read the ending of stories. Start traveling with author in this book immediately!
